Privacy Statement

This privacy statement explains how Sebastian Bigdon, MD ("we" / "the practice") processes personal data. It applies in addition to medical professional secrecy and the revised Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (revFADP / revDSG, in force since 1 September 2023).

1. Controller

Sebastian Bigdon, MD
c/o Orthopädie Sonnenhof
Salvisbergstrasse 4
3006 Bern, Switzerland
Phone: +41 31 358 17 90
Email: kontakt@bigdon.ch

2. Data we process

In the course of medical practice we process in particular:

  • Identification and contact data (name, address, date of birth, phone, email)
  • Insurance data
  • Health data (medical history, findings, imaging, treatment course) — particularly sensitive personal data
  • Data submitted via the online enquiry form
  • When visiting the website: technical connection data (IP address, date/time, user agent, pages accessed)

3. Purposes

  • Medical advice, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care
  • Processing first and second opinion enquiries
  • Billing and statutory documentation
  • Communication with co-treating physicians, insurers and authorities — within the legally permitted scope
  • Ensuring the secure and stable operation of the website

4. Legal basis

Processing is carried out on the basis of your consent, a treatment contract, statutory obligations (in particular the Federal Health Insurance Act, the law on therapeutic products, retention obligations) and our legitimate interest in proper practice administration.

5. Disclosure to third parties

Personal data is disclosed only where necessary for treatment, legally required or expressly requested by you — for instance to co-treating physicians, hospitals, laboratories, radiology, physiotherapy, health insurers or authorities. Service providers (e.g. IT hosting, practice software) are contractually bound to data protection.

6. Disclosure abroad and third-party services in use

This website is deliberately data-protection minimal. It uses no trackers, no cookies and no web analytics service. The only connection to an external service is the loading of the web fonts (Inter and Lora). These are served via Bunny Fonts (BunnyWay d.o.o., Maribor, Slovenia) — a privacy-friendly, EU-hosted font service that, according to its own statement, does not log requests, set cookies or use trackers. Processing takes place within the EU, which qualifies as a country with an adequate level of data protection under the revised Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (revFADP).

Should further services (e.g. hosting, mail reception, HIN integration) be added in future, they will be transparently listed here. Should an individual provider transfer data to countries without an adequate level of data protection, we will rely on appropriate safeguards (e.g. standard contractual clauses) or on your express consent.

7. Retention

Medical records are retained for at least ten years (longer in special cases). Enquiries that do not result in treatment are deleted after the matter has been closed, unless retention obligations apply.

8. Your rights

You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and the right to withdraw consent. You may also contact the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC / EDÖB).

9. Data security

We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data. For medical correspondence with physicians we use secure channels where possible (HIN, encrypted email). HIN integration is in preparation.

10. Cookies and web analytics

This website uses only technically necessary functions. No tracking cookies and no web analytics service are used.

11. Online enquiry form

Data you submit via the enquiry form is currently transmitted technically as a prepared email addressed to me personally (kontakt@bigdon.ch). For particularly sensitive content I recommend transmission via secure channels. Server-side encrypted submission will be added in a later stage.

12. Changes

We may amend this privacy statement at any time. The version published on this page applies.

Note: This statement is a template. It does not replace individual legal advice. Before publication, please reconcile it with the specific practice organisation, the tools in use (practice software, hosting) and the requirements of Orthopädie Sonnenhof and — where applicable — the FDPIC.
